Jim Heiser is a Research Associate who began working at the Fisher Delta Research Center in April 2004 as a summer worker. Jim received a M.S. degree in Agronomy (Weed Science) from the University of Missouri in 2007 and worked for the Weed Science Project until accepting a Research Associate position in Cropping Systems and Soils with Dr. Gene Stevens in 2008. Jim returned to Weed Science in 2013 as project leader at the Delta Center. Jimís responsibilities will be to:

  • Supervise field preparation, planting, spraying, and harvest operations for all of the corn, soybean, wheat, rice, and cotton weed research trials at the Delta Center.
  • Work with farmers, agricultural consultants and industry representatives to develop and promote effective weed management programs based on producer needs and sound IPM principles.
  • Design and manage field plots, collect data, and analyze trial results to address the needs of producers in the region.
  • Disseminate applied weed management information by delivering oral and written results in newsletters, at local field days, producer meetings, and scientific conferences.
  • Cooperate with extension and research colleagues at the Delta Research Center, at the University of Missouri Columbia campus, and in University of Missouri Extension.

Driving directions to office: Take Exit 32 off of Interstate 55. Drive 0.7 mile west to first 4-stop. Turn left (south) on Hwy 61 and drive 0.8 miles to Delta Center office on the left. Field days are held at the MU Lee Farm. Continue driving south 2 more miles past the office. Turn left on County Rd T. Cross interstate on overpass bridge and drive 5 miles to deadend at Hwy TT and MU Lee Farm. Office phone is 573-379-5431
